Megha Ravishankar, a senior from Naperville Central High School, is beyond thrilled to represent her fellow DECA members as an Illinois DECA State Officer this year.

Walking into her first DECA meeting as a shy, inexperienced new member, she never imagined that three years later she’d be chapter’s VP of Marketing and a part of the IL Social Media Team as a junior, let alone her chapter’s president and have the honor to be a state officer her senior year. DECA has allowed her to find her passion for business, think outside the box, and become a leader in various ways. DECA has opened so many doors for Megha, and she hopes to give back to the organization that’s given her so much.

Megha loves written events more than anything! The thrill and excitement of competing in the Innovation Plan with her two close friends is an experience she will never forget. After placing in the top ten at ILCDC in the Innovation Plan her first year in DECA, she was able to compete at internationals. Her love for written events only grew stronger over the years. In her junior year, she completed three written events: the Innovation Plan, the Financial Literacy Project, and the International Business Plan. She describes one of the best parts of DECA as the people in it - she loved the endless evenings she spent with her written event group putting together their written as well as the service opportunities and chapter meetings at which members became a family.

Outside of DECA, Megha has been class council president for the past three years, a member of the Junior Economic Club of Chicago, an Indian Students Association board member, and a three-year volunteer at the Edward-Elmhurst Hospital. She also plays the piano and loves to sing, and has been a competitor for the Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs for eight years. In her free time, she enjoys the company of her family and friends, never failing to spend a day happily. Megha loves to travel and explore different cultures and is grateful for her connection to her Indian roots. As she moves into her future, she hopes to gain more knowledge from various perspectives through interacting with other cultures around the world.

Next year, Megha plans to major in data science and minor in business administration/management, hoping to eventually land a job in the tech industry. She aspires to take the lessons she’s learned from her experiences regarding the significance of giving back, and start her own business or philanthropic organization someday. Megha looks forward to being a part of the state officer team this year and working with the other officers to make this the best year yet! She hopes to get to know more members and create a family that’s ready to take DECA to the NEXT LEVEL!
