Lukas Woerner

Hi, my name is Lukas Woerner and I am thrilled to be on your 2016-2017 Illinois state action team. I am currently a senior at Streamwood High School and have been involved in DECA all four years of my high school life. DECA has been very beneficial in my life, as I can see myself mature educationally and professionally. I have been a chapter officer for the past two years, and the Vice-President of my chapter as a senior. As a sophomore, I had finally given DECA competitions a try, and have very much enjoyed them as I have seen success. My junior year, I was the first Streamwood student to qualify for ICDC in all three of my events at the state level. Through DECA, I have networked with many people, and learned new things through the connections I’ve made.

At Streamwood High school, I am a member of the selective World Languages and International Studies Academy. In the program, I learn how international studies and different languages apply to everyday life. Coming from a family of immigrants, I am trilingual. My knowledge of language and culture have broadened my horizons as I see the world in new ways. By studying the world, one can learn lots of information about other cultures, which impart impact business decisions. Another fun fact is that I am a triplet, and no, my siblings are not in DECA.

I enjoy being a very active and social student. I maintain high academics, while being involved with extracurricular activities. I am the captain of the Sabrehawks Swim team, and strive to become one of the best swimmers in the state. Being a leader in Streamwood’s class council, NHS, and Math team, I have learned that leadership is a quality trait to have in order to become successful.

In my free time, if I ever have any, I enjoy spending time with my friends. Some of my favorite hobbies are eating, dancing, rapping, and making others laugh. I like telling jokes, because laughter in return is the best form of payment. I like to thank all of my friends, family, and DECA counterparts for helping me become the best leader I can. I would like to thank Mr. Nickoley, as he has guided me to DECA success.

I really hope this year that we come together as a large DECA family and really Own Our Future. After high school, I would like to study International Relations, and hopefully help others along the way. DECA has been very inspiring, and certainly has made my high school experience epic. Let’s all Own Our Future and make the 2016-2017 DECA year amazing.
