Illinois DECA
Leah Hoffman

As Jim Carrey once said: “Yes, man.” That is Leah Hoffman’s life motto. Any task that is put in her way, she will complete it with full DECAcation. Leah is a junior at Belvidere North High School and is more than thrilled to be a part of your IL DECA State Action Team.

Leah started DECA her freshman year, only placing at the West Suburban Area Competition. The next year, Leah was Vice President of Competition for her local chapter and was the first person from her school to qualify for ICDC. She competed in Professional Selling for Hospitality and Tourism and in the top 100 internationally. This year, she is proud to be the chapter president. Around her school, you can find over 50 DECA related posters in the hall. She lives by a piece of advice her advisor gave her freshman year: “Always be selling,” which is why Leah has over 13 DECA shirts, one for every day of the week (and then some).

However, outside of DECA, Leah spends her weekends at debate tournaments and driving around her four dogs in her Prius she named Domingo. She spends the majority of her time trying to live outside the status quo; normal is boring. Leah loves heights, rock climbing, and downhill skiing. She also speaks Spanish and pretends to know Portuguese.

Leah’s role models are a tie between her grandfather and Adam Sandler, mostly because Sandler won worst actor at least five different times, making a comeback to be one of the best actors to date. He shows true motivation and growth, which is what DECA stands for, DECAcation to be the best.

So IL DECA, get ready to Own Your Future! If you ever need advice, help, or just have a quick question, don’t hesitate to contact.

Leah is extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity to serve you on the state action team this year. She would like to thank her parents; her advisor, Mr. Young; debate coach, Mrs. Kroepel; and her chapter for helping her get where she is today.

Start this DECA season off with a quote from inspirational speaker, Samuel L. Jackson: " Not everybody goes to movies to get their life changed." and that’s because everyone goes to DECA to get their life changed. Get ready. Get set. Get DECA amped.
