Kristin Yun is a junior at Glenbrook North High School who is beyond ecstatic to represent her fellow DECA members and serve on the Illinois DECA State Action Team. With a year of possibility and opportunity, Kristin seeks to create a community that fosters confidence and camaraderie.
Joining DECA her freshman year as a dubious, inexperienced freshman, Kristin never considered that the next year she would place 5th at ICDC in Personal Financial Literacy and lead as a Data Analyst on the Illinois DECA Social Media Team. Beginning to explore her passion for finance, Kristin hopes to give back to the friends, chapter advisors, and mentors who have sparked her interest.
This year, Kristin is proud to serve as the president of the GBN chapter. Working closely with an outstanding board, mentors, and chapter advisors to organize weekly DECA meetings, fun and informative Kahoots, DECAnomics game nights, and future fundraising events, Kristin hopes to introduce a paradigm shift for the intersection of curriculum and play. Seeking to create a community of driven peers, Kristin wants to create career development opportunities and encourage others to utilize DECA’s opportunities.
Navigating a year of previous social isolation, one of Kristin’s goals is to implement a mentorship and internship connection platform. Allowing students a one-stop site for contact information and open applications, an Illinois DECA sponsored fellowship will allow greater accessibility to students interested in furthering their professional careers. First contacting business professionals from the five clusters of business administration, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and hospitality and tourism, the Illinois DECA website will be a resource for community and innovation.
Outside of DECA, Kristin is the co-captain of the GBN speech team. Competing in Dramatic Interpretation and Original Oratory, Kristin hopes to voice underrepresented stories in both literature and current events. Similarly, Kristin is passionate for uplifting female and nonbinary voices by working with GirlCon and The Homegirl Project. GirlCon is an international tech conference aiming to empower the next generation of female leaders with breakout, professional development, and keynote sessions from a variety of professional backgrounds. Using her DECA skills and raising $30,000 in corporate sponsorships, Kristin hopes for even more attendees to have the chance to personally connect with companies in both college and the workforce. On the other hand, Kristin is also the Director of Finance of the Homegirl Project, a youth-led organization empowering the next generation of girls and non-binary youths with community and fellowship.
When she’s not challenging herself on the Math Team, practicing for Science Olympiad, or acting as a delegate on the Model UN team, Kristin enjoys relaxing with music. From baroque oboe pieces to Megan Thee Stallion, Kristin’s music literature is diverse and ever expanding. Send recommendations with your favorite tunes!
As a member of the State Officer Team, Kristin is excited to connect both individually and on the chapter level. Let’s Maximize Our Momentum and push for excellence!
