Edward Wu is a senior at Naperville North High School who has been involved in DECA since his freshman year. He is extremely excited to begin his position on the Illinois DECA State Action Team and can’t wait to help members engage more in all the amazing opportunities DECA has to offer. Since his sophomore year, Edward has been a part of his chapter’s executive board and served as his chapter’s VP of Marketing and Communications his junior year and is one of the presidents of his chapter this year.
The best part of DECA for Edward is the bonds he is able to create between members from all over the world. Thus, as VP of Marketing and Communications, he worked to bring his chapter and other local chapters together through competition and team activities. He also led his chapter through the ILDECA iConnect program to eventually reach gold status and worked individually with members to find events they were passionate about.
During his time in DECA, Edward competed in the Restaurant and Food Service Management event since his freshman year and went to ICDC his sophomore and junior year for the Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research and Virtual Business Challenge Restaurant events respectively. This year, he is even more excited to try new events that will challenge his interest in business in all sorts of unique ways.
One of Edward’s most valuable experiences in DECA was being brought on the ILDECA State Social Media Team as the creative director where he was able to let his artistic skills in graphic design fly. It was here where he saw how many valuable ways DECA supports its members whether it be through scholarships, awards, team-bonding, or real-world job/internship opportunities. He was also extremely grateful to design the 2018-2019 ILDECA state and ICDC shirt during this opportunity. Edward intends on providing these same windows of engagement to all members on all levels and believes DECA holds the key to getting your feet wet in any field.
Besides DECA, Edward has also competed internationally in the Business Professionals of America organization and is serving as his chapter’s VP of Membership. He is also the Ambassador for his school’s National Honor Society and led a Relay for Life Team the past two years to raise over $3,000 for cancer research and patient care. Edward is also a member of his school’s Science Olympiad team and was an international finalist at the Future Problem Solvers International competition this year. Outside of school, Edward relaxes by running his own sticker shop on Etsy.com called PlancakesStickerCo where he custom designs and sells stickers for fun. He is also parenting a year and a half old Siberian Husky named Atlas when not falling asleep to cooking ASMR.
Through serving ILDECA as a state officer this year, Edward aims to provide unlimited opportunities to all members so they can find their passion and interests in any field. By doing so, he wants this to become the most fun yet rewarding year for DECA members all over Illinois.
