DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
James Rosenberger, a four-year DECA member and senior from Neuqua Valley High School, is immensely excited to have the opportunity to serve his ILDECA family this year as a Vice President of your 2021-2022 State Action Team. For James, serving in this role has been a long-held dream first conjured in the voting-delegate seats of our Fall Leadership Conference four long years ago, and he is thankful every day to have gone full circle and have the opportunity to give back to the members, advisors, and organization that has given him so much.
Inspired by those who came before him, James has always sought to make the most out of his DECA experience. Competing first in Principles of Marketing his Freshman year, James was able to attend ICDC in Orlando and most fondly remembers spending his time at Universal Studios with thousands of other DECA members throughout the nation. However, he will never forget the memories he made there: the rollercoaster-line DECA chants, almost getting lost on the way back to the hotel, or even accidentally ordering room service when his school didn’t allow it. They weren’t funny then, but he loves to laugh about them today! Through the COVID-related uncertainties of his Sophomore and Junior year, James continued on to compete in Business Services Marketing and VBC Accounting, ultimately making it back to ICDC and finishing as a Top 20 Finalist. During this time, James was also able to produce informative and exciting DECA content as ILDECA’s SMT YouTube Manager, although he wishes he could’ve had a few more subscribers! As the first State Officer of his high school, James hopes to inspire others too to take advantage of all the amazing opportunities ILDECA has to offer.
Outside of ILDECA, James serves as the President of his local DECA Chapter. Additionally, he is a Co-President of Neuqua’s Math Honors Society, the President of Neuqua’s National Business Honors Society, and the Membership Retention Coordinator of Neuqua’s UNICEF Club. At the same time, he serves as the VP of Marketing of KidsTeachKidsPlus, a peer-tutoring organization he helped to found. In his free time, James loves nothing more than playing basketball with his friends and is fascinated with everything to do with the NBA.
In college, James hopes to study Quantitative Economics and Mathematics, with the possibility of a minor in Finance. He aims to translate all of the knowledge, experience, and professionalism he has learned from his tenure in DECA into his collegiate experience and beyond. On the State Action Team this year, he is most looking forward to rekindling the DECA spirits of the hundreds of members who have yet to see (because of the uncertainties of COVID) what makes DECA so absolutely incredible in Illinois and beyond. Above all, he cannot wait to work directly with other Association Officers, individual chapters, and other DECA partners to help all of you Maximize Your Momentum this year!
