Anna Shah is a senior from New Trier Township High School and lives in Wilmette, Illinois. She is beyond excited to represent Illinois DECA this year on the state action team and feels honored that she was re-elected.
DECA has been the opportunity of a lifetime for Anna. This organization has led her to become confident, creative, and innovative. She loves her event Apparel and Accessories Marketing Series (AAM), having competed in it since freshman year, and has become a two-year ICDC finalist in AAM. This year has been the culmination of her NT DECA chapter involvement, as she was elected as Co-President with her best friend. She served as State President as a junior and is eager to take on a new role and have an impact in a different way.
Anna could not be more grateful for everything her DECA experience has given her. It has broken her out of her shell and given her the confidence to speak in front of 1600 members at her state conference. Through this organization, she has met such a diverse group of people and continues to cherish those friendships today. She has developed a strong work ethic, DECA-cation, and aspiration to give back everything this organization has given her.
Outside of DECA, Anna’s favorite pastime is shopping with her best friends, specifically thrifting, styling outfits, and purchasing new earrings (for her now 80+ collection). After an exhausting day of shopping, she enjoys exploring cute local coffee shops and warming up with her favorite oat milk chai latte. To stay active, she plays for New Trier’s tennis and badminton teams, and you can often find her on a 20-mile bike ride on the Green Bay Trail.
Anna also loves traveling! This summer she stayed in Germany on her own for a month and worked as a camp counselor at Berlitz Speaking Camps and taught her campers English. Her favorite destinations are Sylt, Reykjavik, London, and Washington D.C. She is half German and half Indian, and although she cannot speak Hindi, she spontaneously weaves in German phrases in her everyday speech, often to the confusion of her friends. Her favorite food is Korean BBQ and she is always up to try something exotic and new!
Next year, she is off to college and although she doesn’t yet know where that is, Anna is excited to be independent and make her mark on the world. DECA has made her “ready for” and well equipped to take on any of life’s challenges. She is ecstatic for another year of Illinois DECA: #herewego ...again.
