Anna Shah is a junior from New Trier Township High School, and lives in Wilmette, Illinois. She is beyond excited to represent Illinois DECA this year as president, and feels honored that she was elected into this position. She is proud to be part of an all-female leadership team that will inspire girls to pursue business, despite it being a male-dominated field.
DECA has been the opportunity of a lifetime for Anna. This organization has led her to become confident, creative, and innovative. She has been on her chapter’s leadership board for the past two years, and is the current vice president of her chapter as a junior. She won state last year in Apparel and Accessories Marketing Series, and received 2nd place in her Community Service Written Project, both of which qualified her for internationals. At ICDC, she became the first person from her school to become an international finalist, and hopes to bring this trailblazing spirit to the state officer team this year.
Her favorite competitive event is Apparel and Accessories Marketing Series (AAM). Anna loves fashion, and has grown up reading Vogue. Last year, she participated in the FIDM DECA challenge with her best friend, and designed an athleisure inspired capsule collection. This year, she will enter the Innovation Plan written project and the Fashion Virtual Challenge to gain even more experience in the field.
After researching sustainability in fashion in her geoscience class, she became passionate about this subject area, and became more conscious of her environmental footprint. She tries to upcycle her clothes and add her own flair to thrifted items.  In college, she hopes to study marketing or sustainability in fashion.
Outside of DECA, Anna enjoys playing on her school’s tennis and badminton teams. She is also on the junior board for her school’s UNICEF club and tutors twice a week at the Reading and Writing Center. At a sewing class, Anna just made her own skirt and hopes to design more of her own clothes. Last summer, she interned at Sweaty Betty (a women’s athletic company) in London, and visited her former exchange student in Germany. This summer, she hopes to visit Germany, and teach kids at an English camp.
Anna loves traveling, and her favorite destinations are Rekjavik, Kerala, London, and San Francisco. She hopes her next destination will be Orlando, at ICDC, and cannot wait to compete and visit Harry Potter World.
